March 2020 - Present
Regional Editor
Bluegrass Newsmedia
Danville, Kentucky

I currently oversee editorial operations of six newspapers in Kentucky, along with one in Tennessee. I edit content for all of these publications, as well as managing staff members for each. My work includes overseeing regular and special publications, working closely with our design team, preparing photos and graphics in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and approving final design of our publications. I am also responsible for personnel at each of the locations, handling the hiring and other issues related to the employment of staff members.

Dec. 2018 – March 2020
Resource Development Director
Isaiah House Treatment Centers
Willisburg, Kentucky

As resource development director for Isaiah House Treatment Centers, I coordinated special events such as graduations, public tours of our facilities, and all media relations. I also worked with organizations that provided donations to our centers, keeping track of these donations and maintaining discreet records of gifts while also providing correspondence with other potential donors. I was responsible for planning events including graduations, facility tours, and the organization's first-ever fundraising banquet which brought in more than $48,000 from donations and a silent auction.

Dec. 2005 – Dec. 2018
Editor/Publisher
Landmark Community Newspapers
Springfield/Campbellsville, Kentucky

For 13 years I served in various roles with Landmark Community Newspapers. I began my career with the company as editor and general manager of The Springfield Sun in Washington County, Kentucky, in 2005. I was promoted in 2011 to editor/publisher of the twice-weekly Central Kentucky News-Journal, and in 2014 I was given responsibility of both newspapers. I oversaw the financial performance of both newspapers, with revenue of more than $1.5 million, as well as managing staff members and overseeing the editorial content while coaching the news staffs of each paper to produce a better product for our readers. As publisher, I also handled personnel matters and worked with regional and corporate leadership.
Additionally, I was responsible for the editing and design of both newspapers, handling graphic design, photography, and other duties to create the products. I also wrote stories and photographed events for both newspapers.

Jan. 2004 - Dec. 2005
American Farm Publications
Easton, Maryland

For two years I was editor for this agricultural publishing company based in Easton, Maryland, where I was in charge of three publications covering agricultural topics on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. I worked out of Maryland, but also covered topics in New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
My work took me from varied locations, including the White House and United States Department of Agriculture, to working with small farm operators to convey their stories. I covered events related to equine and avian agriculture to crop production and legislative issues. I managed the news staff and was in charge of presentation of the products, as well as overseeing the newsroom budget.

April 2000 - June 2003
The Richmond Register
Richmond, Kentucky

I worked as sports editor and assistant managing editor of The Richmond Register, a six-day daily newspaper in Richmond, Kentucky. During my time at the paper, I served as a coach for young reporters, as well as covering NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky University sports and NFL coverage of the Cincinnati Bengals.
I handled front-page layout and other design, and also helped oversee the news staff in planning coverage of community events, features, and other news content.

January 1996 - March 2000
The Citizen Voice & Times
Irvine, Kentucky

I got my start in journalism as a part-time sports reporter/photographer for my hometown newspaper. My first supervisor was a member of the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. He was owner/publisher of a group of community newspapers, and he took a chance on me as an ambitious young journalist. I was hired into a full-time reporter/photographer position, and within two years became editor of the newspaper, handling the layout and design of the paper, as well as covering much of the spot news, local government, and features. In addition, I was also covering sports. It was a heavy load, but that job taught me a work ethic and fueled my passion even more.
It was an excellent foundation for a well-rounded career.
